STEM Sussex celebrates the work of 26 Nuffield Placement students

Published: 25 October 2019

Massive congratulations to the students who have successfully completed Nuffield Research placements this year.

This scheme gave these students the opportunity to take part in research projects alongside practising scientists, technologists, engineers and mathematicians for 4-6 weeks in universities, industry or research institutions in Sussex and Hampshire in the summer of 2019.

All students will have had a valuable experience that will act as a springboard to their future careers in research.

Previous students have found the experience valuable in gaining a place at the university of their choice, were able to submit their project work for a CREST Award (British Science Association), and/or have had the opportunity to compete in the regional and national Big Bang UK Young Scientists and Engineers Competition.

Dr Bhavik Patel, Professor of Clinical and Bioanalytical Chemistry from the University of Brighton who is an inspiring Alumni of the Nuffield Research scheme, who spoke at the event and presented the students with their certificates. As a previous Nuffield Research student now does a fantastic work in supporting new students in their placements at the University of Brighton and further afield.

A special thank you goes to Shamilla Metcalf, Head of Nuffield Research Placements at Nuffield, for supporting the event and for providing such a fantastic programme of events.
