British Science Week 2020 Grants: Kick Start

Key stage: ks2, ks3, ks4, ks5

The Kick Start scheme offers grants for schools in challenging circumstances to organise their own events as part of British Science Week. There are four options available:

  • Kick Start Youth grant: A grant of £150 for your school to run an activity organised by students aged 10-19
  • Kick Start grant: A grant of £300 for your school to run an activity for students at your school
  • Kick Start More grant: A grant of £700 for your school to run an activity which involves your students and the local community
  • Kick Start grant + Youth grant: A grant of £450 for your school to run an activity for British Science Week as well as an additional activity organised and delivered by students aged 10-19

The deadline for applications is 5pm, 11 November 2019.

CREST for underrepresented audiences funding

Key stage: ks2, ks3, ks4, ks5

The CREST Underrepresented Audience Grants are funded by UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) and aim to broaden the reach of the CREST Awards and enable young people who might face additional barriers to participation to gain an Award.

Applicants can request up to £600 total towards running CREST.

This breaks down into two categories:

  • Up to £300 to cover CREST registration fees (you can find costs here)
  • Up to £300 to spend on support costs for running the Awards, such as CPD for school staff, supply teacher cover, CREST partner schemes or a delivery partner, consumables or equipment.

The deadline for applications is: 

Round 1: 5pm on Wednesday 16 October 2019

Round 2: 5pm on Wednesday 22 January 2020.

Institute of Physics - School Grant Scheme (various deadlines)

Key stage: ks3, ks4, ks5

Schools, colleges or home school groups based in the UK and Ireland can apply for awards up to £600 for the following:

  • materials and resources
  • transport
  • marketing and publicity
  • other purposes deemed appropriate by the judges
  • supply cover (in certain circumstances).

They particularly encourage proposals that look at:

  • particle physics
  • astronomy
  • space and nuclear physics
  • energy
  • transport
  • information and communications
  • design and promotion
  • built environment.

Royal Society of Chemists - Educational Grants Scheme (ongoing)

Key stage: ks2, ks3, ks4, ks5

Areas of funding streams:

  • Enhanced Equipment -for Primary and Secondary Schools to fund equipment not available through their mainstream budget.
  • Chemistry Clubs – funds for activities run at schools/colleges outside the normal science timetable.
  • Partnership of 3 – supporting activities that bring together at least three different partners for chemistry outreach activities.
  • UG ChemSoc – funding for student societies promoting biological and medicinal chemistry.
  • Funding through RSC Local Sections – collaboration between schools and colleges with their RSC Local Section.
