STEM ACTIVITIES

3dCADventure

1 day taster in 3d design

image
The objective of the day is to introduce KS3 and KS4 students to the world of 3d design using computer modelling packages. The technology allows the user to produce a ‘solid’ model of a product on the screen and then be able to modify it with a live design on the screen.

This school based workshop will be of one day duration and will allow the pupil to have a dedicated computer and work through a number of tutorials at their own pace prior to commencing the design brief.

The tutorials will take up to 3 hours to complete and the design brief has a minimum requirement of 3 hours.

The pupil will have the opportunity to produce a full colour image of their design and outstanding designs will be prototyped at the University and then sent to the school.

There are 15 laptop computers that are available and it is envisaged that the training will be on the basis of one pupil per computer. The training will be carried out using Solid Works and will be carried out by University staff with support from Science and Engineering Ambassadors from the University of Brighton.

Animation

This is a follow up day for those pupils who have mastered the 3d design package and wish to learn the art of taking a 3d model and making it move! Typically this will involve demonstrating how a product is assembled or how a mechanism works.

The half day session will be restricted to 10 pupils to ensure that adequate time is available to demonstrate the techniques and assist the pupils.

Cost

The sessions are provided free, with a charge made for travel expenses only.

The sessions are sponsored by South East Knowledge Exchange for Product Development based at the University of Brighton.
