Becoming a STEM Ambassador

By becoming a STEM Ambassador, you will be fulfilling an important role. Not only will you be helping to inform and enthuse teachers and students about studying science, technology, engineering and mathematics and the potential career opportunities that they open up, you will also be highlighting the importance of these subjects in everyday life.

Of course the benefits are not just one-way, being an Ambassador will have benefits for you, not least of which is that we're sure that you will find the experience enjoying and personally rewarding. It will also help you to develop your communication and project management skills. Moreover, as we expect that participation will be accredited as Continuing Professional Development with the Professional Institutions, being an Ambassador has the potential to support your career development.

An Ambassador's work might include

  • Supporting teachers with the delivery of the school curricula by, for example, helping with practical work in the classroom, arranging and/or accompanying students on visits to outside organisations, or by supporting teachers behind the scenes in lesson planning and updating work.
  • Supporting extra-curricular activities, such as clubs, awards and competitions.
  • Addressing school groups, including parents and governors, about relevant topics, such as their career and experiences, and how to get into certain fields
  • Getting involved in a whole range of curriculum enrichment and enhancement activities organised by STEM Sussex.
  • Supporting careers guidance and acting as a role model.
  • Supporting the whole school more generally with their technical knowledge.
  • Helping to provide work experience placements for teachers and students.
