Go Goblin
Key Stage 2
This exciting activity is designed to give pupils a chance to become involved in a practical engineering project where they construct a functional electric racing car and then take part in races and competitions.
Designed by Greenpower, the project embraces many aspects of science and technology in a fun and exciting way. The Goblin kit offers a mechanical and electrical assembly experience from which all involved will learn the basics of electric circuitry, mechanical drives, steering, brakes and teamwork in a competitive environment.
Pupils learn practical skills such as: how to use basic hand tools, how to understand a basic direct current wiring circuit, how gearing works and how power is transmitted, all in support of the curriculum.
Pupils' parents can become involved and participate actively on race days, and there is also involvement from local engineering companies that further stimulate pupils' interest.
A STEM Ambassador can provide input and invaluable support for the activity, and can further set the learning in context.
