Rock On
A chemistry, engineering and environmental-based activity programme where pupils become architects, builders, geologists and chemists for the day.
Pupils are introduced to rock types in the natural world, building materials, space within materials, chemical reactions through erosion, separation and crystallisation.
The reactions and behaviour of different rock types are explored as pupils learn about soft materials using microchemistry. Pupils handle chemical equipment, undertake chemical reactions and learn more about solids, liquids and solubility.
How does volcanic rock feel and how are crystals made? Pupils can enjoy the look and feel of distinctive rocks and materials that they've never come across before in this motivating, hands-on activity.
National Curriculum
QCA primary scheme of work - Sci - 3d, 4d, 5d, & 6d.
