Micro Organisms
This activity introduces pupils to the excitement of microbiology through the curriculum topics of hygiene, spread of disease, use of microbes in food technology, composting and recycling.
Pupils investigate good and bad microbes in food and spoilage; learn about decay and the environment and the transfer of microbial disease and fermentation.
The workshop excites and engages pupils and it can stretch their knowledge and understanding of microbiology in preparation for Key Stage 2 and Secondary science.

Duration: half day or full day

Planning and running the session
Location, furniture and equipment requirements: A hall or classroom with tables and chairs to suit required number of pupils.
School staff support expectation: The teacher and any auxiliary staff are expected to support the pupils in their activities and learning. Teachers are also responsible for maintaining discipline during the activity.
