About Us

STEM Sussex's aims and objectives:

  • To enable young people to make informed decisions about future career paths in and from STEM.
  • To support teachers in delivery of the STEM curriculum.
  • To support industry in reducing the STEM skills gap.
  • To raise the profile of science and engineering.

STEM Sussex is committed to supporting and encouraging young people in Brighton and Hove, East Sussex and West Sussex, to actively and enjoyably engage with Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).

Based at the University of Brighton, we support the Government's Agenda for ensuring a good supply of scientists, technologists, engineers and mathematicians in the UK.

We ensure that primary schools, secondary schools and colleges in Sussex have access to high-quality STEM curriculum enhancement and enrichment activities.

These activities produce successful STEM learners by offering engaging and achievable challenges, whilst building student confidence. They support students' development into responsible citizens through placing the STEM learning in relevant life contexts.

The activities also address one or more of the educational themes: STEM progression, careers awareness, work-related learning, attainment, diversity and aspiration. We also offer bespoke packages to suit your school or college's needs and all of our activities will travel to schools.

We also offer departmental teacher and technician Continuing Professional Development in STEM subjects to enable knowledge development and confidence in STEM classroom delivery.

To support teachers in delivering the STEM curricula, our STEM Ambassador programme offers input from enthusiastic volunteers from industry, education and research who have STEM backgrounds and experience.
